Sammi Haney turned to Instagram last night to reveal that Netflix has cancelled Raising Dion after just two seasons on the streaming platform.
Talking about the cancellation, Haney thanked the show’s fans and expressed sorrow that the show won’t be returning for another season. She wrote, “Sad to say that Raising Dion is CANCELED Thank you for all of the amazing support we got from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to Season 1, even if just looking at how many people watched all of it and wanted a season 3!”
Raising Dion was adapted from the comic book of the same name by Dennis Liu and premiered on Netflix in 2019. The story followed Nicole, a widower raising her son, Dion as he started to manifest magical, superhero-like abilities.
This latest cancellation follows as Netflix starts to cut down costs. The streaming giant has lost 200,000 subscribers since the start of the year which resulted in Netflix’s net worth dropping a whopping $50 billion from the company’s value. Shortly afterwards, reports started surfacing that Netflix is currently re-evaluating its ongoing projects with animation projects taking major hit.
Despite the cancellation, the show was praised by critics and fans. As a result, it’s disappointing to see the show meeting its end after a short run. Raising Dion joins Archive 81, The Babysitters’ Club and Cowboy Bebop in Netflix’s canceling spree.
