Although Twitter started off as a microblogging platform with the ability to tweet in 140 characters or less, over the years the platform has evolved significantly. In an attempt to attract more users, the company has introduced several features including Twitter Spaces, Blue Subscription among many other features. Interestingly, the company is seemingly working on podcast related capabilities.
According to reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter is working on a new interface where a microphone is present in the app’s menu bar that takes users to a page titled ‘Podcasts’
Although it’s unclear how Twitter will implement the podcasts feature or if Spaces will be integrated with the upcoming feature considering both share similar contents.
At the moment, live Spaces are found at the top of Twitter mobile app and as a result, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how the microblogging platform adopts podcasts. Although both Spaces and podcasts are quite similar, Twitter Spaces puts more emphasis on the live aspect of the audio interaction while podcasts are geared towards consumers who want to listen to contents at their own pace. As a result, it’ll be interesting to see how Twitter integrates both features in its app when the feature becomes available.
