If you’re a fan of Rocket League and was wondering if the driving and soccer mashup game by Psyonix will ever come for smartphones, you’ll be glad to know that the studio has announced that Rocket League Sideswipe, a new take on the Rocket League formula, is coming to smartphones.
According to the developers, the biggest different between the upcoming title and the original Rocket League is that Sideswipe will play in a 2D perspective. Due to the restricting movements associated with 2D environment, the game will have fewer players with only Sideswipe. Moreover, the matches will be only 2 minutes long.
Despite the changes, Sideswipe will still have core mechanics of Rocket League’s gameplay. Both the typical Soccer mode and Hoops mode can be played here. However, there’ll be some changes as the goals will be raised from the ground to make it little bit difficult to score. Apart from the gameplay perspectives, the title will bring heavy customization elements of the first game that made it popular among gamers.
As for controls, Psyonix claims that the new title will feature controls that are easy to pick up. After Rocket League went free to play last year, a lot of players expected that the original title will eventually come to mobile devices. However, the developers revealed that the keeping the original controls would make everything significantly more difficult.
The developers said that the registration for alpha version will be available for players who are currently located in Australia and New Zealand. The full version of the game is expected to come out sometime later this year.
