Although S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra played crucial roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the early days of the franchise, it’s been couple of years since we last saw either of the organization. While we’ll have to wait to find out if we’ll ever see either of the organization will come back to the franchise, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige didn’t rule out the possibility of the return.
During an interview, Feige said, “Well, again, you can always look at the comics, right? We always take our lead from what has happened before, and those organizations come and go in various forms over the years. So, they always could [return]. There are new organizations like S.W.O.R.D., that you saw in WandaVision, so there’s always an inherent need for above-board or shadowy organizations of some kind in the MCU.”
Feige is currently promoting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ahead of the series’ premiere later this week. As mentioned earlier, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra played crucial parts in the franchise since the early days. During the course of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we learned that Hydra infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. While we haven’t seen either of the organization over last couple of years, it’s likely that we’ll see them coming back in some form in future.
If you’ve watched WandaVision, then you might already know that the series introduced S.W.O.R.D. which is picking up where S.H.I.E.L.D. left off. As a result, it’s likely that we’ll see the organizations returning under different names.
However, we’re still in the early stage of the new phase of MCU and it’s likely that we’ll learn how different organizations make their return during the course of the franchise.
