Although Samsung announced the company’s first smart speaker, Galaxy Home back in 2018, the company hasn’t been successful in releasing the smart speaker. It’s not surprising considering Bixby hasn’t been able to compete with other digital assistants. Interestingly, Samsung’s CEO of its consumer electronics division has recently confirmed that the company currently has plans to launch a more affordable Galaxy Home Mini this year.
If you have been following Samsung related news, then this latest confirmation shouldn’t come off as a massive surprise. Earlier last year, Samsung invited Galaxy smartphone owners in South Korea to apply for the beta program to share their feedback. Although Samsung didn’t reveal a lot of information, it showcased the product design recently.
While Samsung has been releasing smart speakers with Google Assistant for last couple of years, Bloomberg’s report reveal that the upcoming smart speaker will use Samsung’s Bixby digital assistant. Moreover, the smart speaker will be a portable device meaning it won’t be required to plugged-in all the times.
At the moment, we will have to wait to find out more as Samsung has faced a lot of criticisms due to Galaxy Home’s design. Although not a lot of details regarding the upcoming smart speaker are available at this point, expect to learn more as we move forward in case Samsung releases the device in the coming months.
