Earlier last year, MediaTek announced its flagship 5G chipset Dimensity 1000. And now, the company has announced mid-range Dimensity 800 5G chipset.
In case you are wondering, the Dimensity 800 comes with four big and powerful Cortex-A76 cores along with four low-power Cortex-A55 cores clocked. All of the cores are clocked at 2GHz. Although marketed as mid-range CPU, the Dimensity 800 comes with four Dimensity 1000-class GPU IP. According to MediaTek, this will provide customers a flagship level GPU.
As for supported camera chips, the Dimensity 800 supports up to four concurrent cameras with 64MP camera sensors and multi-camera options like 32+16MP. The processor also comes with features such as auto white balance, noise reduction, facial detection, and multi-frame 4K video with video HDR.
As higher refresh rate screens for smartphones are likely to become popular in this year, the new MediaTek chip supports FHD+ displays with 90Hz refresh rate. As you can tell from the name, the processor comes with an integrated 5G modem with two carrier aggregation as well as Dynamic Spectrum Sharing and multi-mode cellular connectivity from 2G to 5G. Unfortunately, the chip will support limited number of 5G networks. While we will have to wait to find out which manufacturer adopts the new processor, MediaTek expects to see the first smartphone that uses Dimensity 800 chip in the first half of this year.
