Google recently introduced a YouTube Music widget for homescreen to allow users to skip forwards and backwards through a playlist. The widget works similar to the app as you can play and pause the track directly from your homescreen. While the widget is identical to Google Play Music, the widget doesn’t support music videos if you were hoping to see current videos directly from your smartphone’s homescreen.
While the lack of design is definitely a bummer, it’s likely that Google will release new designs for the widget in the coming months. As Google is actively pushing to gain more consumers go YouTube Music, it’s likely that the company will introduce more features to the widget to make it default player for Android devices.
In case you are interested in using the widget, you will need to update the app to the latest version from Play Store. After you have updated your app to 3.39 or higher, you will need to return to the home screen of your smartphone. from there, you can press and hold empty space and select ‘Widgets’ from the list, you will find the option for YouTube Music. From here, just drag and place the widget in your homescreen similar to other widgets.
