After years of anticipation, Sony announced that The Last of Us 2 will be coming out in February 2020. Although it’s been only few weeks since the announcement, the developers behind the company, Naughty Dog has said that we will have to wait few more months to get the title in our hands.
In a recent blog post Neil Druckmann revealed that the studio has decided to delay the release of the title until May 29th, 2020 in order to release a more polished title. In the blog post, the director of the upcoming title wrote that the studio felt that the title wasn’t up to the standards they expect. As a result, they decided to delay the release the product instead of releasing a title which wouldn’t live up to their standards.
He wrote, “However, it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality. At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”
Although disappointing, the latest news shouldn’t be surprising considering the quality of the first release of the series. As we move forward, more details of the upcoming title should come out on a regular basis.
