As Nintendo Wii was a huge flop at the time of its release, a lot of people were worried if Nintendo will turn its fortune around with its Switch release. However, Nintendo broke all expectations with Switch and the sales of the handheld is still going strong. In its recent quarterly report, the company revealed that it has sold 41.67 million units of the Switch worldwide to date.
According to Nintendo’s latest earnings report, the device sold an additional 4.8 million units during the last quarter ending last month. Apart from standard model, Nintendo noted that the Switch Lite accounted for 1.95 million units. Given that the Lite version was released on 20th of September, the figure shows that the model is selling pretty well alongside the standard model.
Switch Lite is a smaller and cheaper version of the standard model. As a result, you cannot remove the controllers or dock the device as the model was designed to be played on the go. Given the poor performance of Wii U, the changes in Nintendo’s sales figures are certainly great. As for the Switch Lite, it’s likely that Nintendo wants to transition its DS gamers to Switch Lite as it is a better alternative available at the moment. Despite that, Nintendo is still supporting the DS consoles.
