Although Intel’s latest generation of processors improved significantly over last couple of years, there are still enthusiasts who are interested in knowing how far current generations of processors can go. Thankfully, you will get a chance to purchase another Intel processor as earlier today, Intel confirmed that it will launch the new 9th generation Intel Core i9-9900KS processor on October 30th.
According to Intel, the special edition processor will see base clock speed rising from 3.6GHz to 4GHz compared to the standard Core i9-9900K. As a result, gamers can see significant improvements in gaming performance. Moreover, Intel claimed that the latest processor is capable of delivering up to 5GHz all-core turbo frequency. If that’s not enough, Intel has revealed that the processors will come unlocked meaning overclocking enthusiasts will be able to get even more out of the upcoming processor.
Apart from this, both 9900K and 9900KS will be similar to each other. Both of the processors will feature eight cores and 16 threads. Additionally, the processor will come with 16MB Intel Smart Cache and up to 40 platform PCIe lanes. Moreover, the processor will support Z390 motherboards meaning you won’t be required to purchase a new motherboard.
However, the 9900KS will have a significantly higher TDP of 127W which is higher than the standard 95W of 9900K. As a result, you should expect significantly higher power consumption and heat from the latest processor.
While we will have to wait to find out how the latest processor will perform, Intel revealed that 9900KS will provide up to 35 percent more frames per second when playing Total War: 3 Kingdoms, and up to 78% faster 4K video editing performance compared to a 6th generation Core i7-6700K CPU.
Talking about the upcoming processor, Intel vice president and general manager of the Desktop, Workstation and Channel Group Frank Soqui said, “It’s [Intel Core i9-9900KS] the world’s best gaming desktop processor made even better and created specifically for extreme gamers who want the most performance possible.”
The i9-9900KS will be available from 30th of October with a retail price starting from $513.
