Intel has added two new processors in its Comet Lake-U lineup. The latest Pentium Gold 6405U and Celeron 5205U CPUs will be used for entry-level laptops that will contain next generation of processors.
In case you are wondering, the Pentium Gold 6405U and Celeron 5205U are dual-core processors that run at 2.4 GHz and 1.9 GHz. Both of the CPUs have TDPs of just 15 watts similar to the rest of the latest Comet Lake U family of processors. Apart from that, both of the processors come with 2 MB of L3 cache, Intel UHD Graphics, a dual-channel DDR4/LPDDR3 memory controller, and feature 12 PCIe 2.0 lanes for expansion. As for pricing, the Pentium Gold 6405U will start with a $161 recommended price and the Celeron will cost $107 when purchased in 1000 units.
These two CPUs will join previously announced Comet Lake-U family lineups. Although the lineup contained only 4 CPUs, majority of them were targeted towards premium laptops. However, with the latest releases, Intel wants to give manufacturers cheaper alternatives.
As the demand for the inexpensive U series of CPUs are pretty high at the moment, the latest addition will come extremely handy for Intel as it continues to struggle to keep up with the demand for 14nm processors.
