With BlizzCon being just couple of days away, there hasn’t been any shortage of rumors surround the event. According to a recent report from BlizzCon, Overwatch 2 will be announced during the event.
ESPN claims that the details come from a BlizzCon training document obtained by the outlet. However, this isn’t the first time we are hearing about the upcoming sequel. Rumors surrounding Overwatch 2 began earlier this year after a report from Kotaku revealed that Blizzard is working on bringing the next installment in the series.
Ahead of BlizzCon, ESPN claimed that the upcoming title will put more focused towards PvE mode rather than the traditional 6v6 competitive mode. According to the report, Blizzard will throw 4 players in a story mission set in Rio de Janeiro to showcase the PvE elements of the title.
Apart from this, Blizzard is expected to add another new game mode ‘Push’ to its existing gameplay modes. While not a lot of details regarding the mode is known so far, the first Push map will be set in Toronto and will be available alongside other game modes.
If the report is accurate, then we will also get a new hero during this year’s event. However, in a follow-up tweet, Rod Breslau, the author of the article, clarified that the upcoming game won’t be called Overwatch 2. Rather, it will be a variant of Overwatch: Chapter 2
to clarify from my original tweet, it is very likely the next iteration of Overwatch will not be ‘Overwatch 2’, but instead a variant of ‘Overwatch: Chapter 2’ https://t.co/RVkjrZisuY

This latest news comes shortly after few days earlier, Overwatch streamer Metro revealed several details about the upcoming game. Although Overwatch has been PvP focused, the game’s playerbase has been asking for more story driven PvE missions for a long time. Although the game releases co-op missions, developers of the game have revealed in the past that the Overwatch Engine isn’t designed for PvE elements.
Apart from Overwatch 2, Blizzard will also unveil Diablo 4.
