Uber has been working on introducing micromobility solutions to its services for a while and starting from today, Uber customers in selected cities will see bikes and scooters from JUMP and Lime as transportation options. This is the first time Uber has promoted third party services within its app so prominently.
However, it seems that Uber is testing the feature in just a small number of areas as users from Atlanta and San Diego are noticing the changes says TechCrunch This latest feature comes after Uber and Lime signed a partnership earlier last year that saw Lime adding Uber to its scooters in the same cities.
As mentioned earlier, Uber added the feature in a small area to see if the customers benefit from the addition. If Uber is satisfied with the result, the company will expand the feature to other cities where bikes and scooters are available at the moment.
Uber’s latest move doesn’t come off as a major surprise as the company has pointed out in the past that one out of five trips is under a mile and almost half of the trips are less than three miles. As a result, Uber users requested the option for bike and scooters for a long time. At the moment however, Uber hasn’t revealed any timeline when the options might be available in other locations.
