Ahead of this year’s E3, rumors surfaced on the internet that we will learn about the release date of both Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA 6 during the event. While Cyberpunk 2077 stole the show with the surprise appearance of Keanu Reeves, to everyone’s disappointment, Rockstar didn’t announce anything related to GTA 6. However, now that Cyberpunk 2077’s release date is official, rumor mill has it that GTA 6 is set to be a console exclusive.
The claim came from Reddit user JackOLantern1982 who said that the rumors are coming from two friends who “are very reliable and have worked for places such as Kotaku and PC Gamer.” Moreover, he says that he has a friend who is working for Rockstar who neither confirmed nor denied the claims. While we will have to take the latest rumors with a grain of salt, the claims made in the post line up with the previous claims.
For a long time, rumors suggested that Rockstar will not be releasing the game on current generation consoles. As a result, it’s safe to say that the game won’t be arriving before end of the next year earliest. Most importantly, previous reports claimed that the title won’t lunch until 2021 or 2022 that means it’s not too difficult to claim that the game will launch on PS5 and Project Scarlett. However, Rockstar will surprise everyone by making its most popular title a console exclusive given how successful GTA series has been on PC throughout the years.
Apart from this, the Redditor claimed that GTA 6 will feature a male protagonist who is an “up and coming drug lord-wannabe named ‘Ricardo’.” Additionally, the game will be set in both Vice City and a fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro. Apparently, the game is heavily based on Netflix’s Narcos and will contain Red Dead Redemption 2-style chapter system.
At the moment however, we have no word from Rockstar regarding the title and it’s unlikely that we will hear about the game anytime soon. In the meantime, rumors will intensify as we move forward and get a general idea of what the game might look like when it comes out eventually.
