Earlier this year, we finally saw USB4 in action. While we will have to wait a while before the technology becomes norm in high end devices, the technology will improve transfer speed significantly from 20Gbps to 40Gbps. According to a latest report by Anandtech, we might get USB4 compatible devices in as early as by the end of next year.
According to the report, retail products featuring USB 4 will be available by the end of 2020 as it will allow several benefits to manufacturers as well as consumers. In case you are wondering, when USB4 becomes available, you will be able to connect more powerful external GPU or power multiple bandwidth heavy devices at the same time.
Anandtech revealed that the USB Promoter group said that they will need to go through several procedures before they can finalize the specifications. Interestingly, the USB4 will be backwards compatible with the existing USB-C devices. The group expects that it will be able to finalize the specifications by the end of this year. If that’s the case, expect manufacturers to showcase their products by the end of next year.
