While Uber released its Uber Eats app for a while now, it seems that the company is trying to make it easier for consumers to use both services. Recently in a statement made to TechCrunch, the company has confirmed that it is testing ways to bring the Uber Eats app into its main app.
A spokesperson from Uber told TechCrunch, “We’re rolling out a new way to order Eats directly in the Uber app on Android (we’ve already been experimenting on iOS). This cross-promotion gives riders who are new to Eats a seamless way to order a meal via a webview instead of opening up the App Store for download.”
While this is certainly an interesting idea, one would think if Uber Eats app became popular among users due to the merging in the first place. However, this news isn’t exactly a shocker given Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed the idea earlier last month during the company’s earning’s call. At the time he said, “Suffice it to say we are starting to experiment in ways in which we can upsell our ride customers to Eats deals in a way that — you know, to be plain spoken — isn’t annoying . . . I will tell you that we are very, very early in the stages of exploring the many, many ways in which our Ride business can help continue to build our Eats business and vice versa by the way . . . I don’t want to give away too much.”
This is far from the first time a company brought two such services under one app. Recently, Grab made a similar change to its main app to provide same service. At the moment however, we will have to wait to find out if Uber actually becomes successful in getting users’ attention with the latest move as the company has gone through a rough time in recent times.
