In an attempt to improve energy efficiency of its cars while providing a quality of life improvement to consumers, Toyota has revealed that future Toyota vehicles will ship with an automatic engine shut down feature.
In the official press release, the company noted that although it already offers similar functionality with its older cars, it will improve upon the existing feature. With older cars with the similar feature, engines notify drivers in case they have left their cars on idle for an extended period of time. However, with the upcoming feature, the engine will turn off automatically.
The company noted, “The Auto Shut Off feature will automatically shut off the engine after a pre-determined period of time in the event the vehicle is left running. Future enhancements will include smartphone App capabilities as an added reminder.”
Moreover, Toyota revealed that it will produce cars with another safety feature for avoid paring related incidents. When the feature is available, it will notify drivers if they forget to put their gear into park mode. This will remove any risk of possible incidents going forward.
As for release, the company said the features will debut with different 2020 models. As a result, you might have to wait few more months before seeing the new features in action.
