Although electric cars were a gimmick for a while, Tesla has changed the industry significantly with its futuristic designs. However, upon release, Tesla’s vehicles proved everyone wrong with their performances as the company proved electric cars can be as effective as gas-powered vehicles. In a recent interview, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that the company’s upcoming pickup truck might outperform a Porsche 911.
During his the latest episode of the Ride the Lightning podcast, Musk revealed how the upcoming vehicle will outperform a 911 for performance while beating Ford F-150 for affordability. He said, “It won’t look like a normal truck. It’s going to look pretty sci-fi, it’s not going to be for everyone. If somebody just wants a truck that looks like trucks have looked for the last 20 years, 30 years, or 40 years, this probably isn’t for them.”
While we will have to wait to find out if the claims are accurate, Musk’s latest comments supported consumers’ concern. Several experts claimed in the past that the company’s upcoming truck will be more expensive than its counterparts. During the course of the podcast, Musk said that Tesla is considering a price range of $49,000 which will be significantly more expensive than other options. For example, the Ford F-150 starts at around $28,500.
Luckily enough, we don’t have to wait much longer as Tesla is expected to unveil its pickup truck later this year. Earlier in 2017, Tesla launched its first Semi truck.
