Although Final Fantasy XIV was heavily criticized after its launch, the title has become extremely popular among gamers after Square Enix launched Final Fantasy XIV: A World Reborn back in 2013. Since then, the title remains to be one of the biggest MMORPGs and now, the game is getting a live action TV series which will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Hivemind, the studio behind Netflix’s upcoming series based on The Witcher.
Unfortunately, neither Sony nor Hivemind revealed any details regarding the show. However, Chris Parnell, Sony Pictures Television Co-President said that the show will feature elements of the game that made it popular among fans. He said, “This show is about embracing and embodying all of the elements that have made the mythos such an endlessly captivating phenomenon, and it’s an immense honor to be bringing all of Eorzea’s iconic characters, settings, and concepts – including fan-favorites like Cid and, of course, the chocobos – to life for a television audience.”
At the moment, there isn’t any detail on when the show will premiere and if it will be available for everyone around the world. Despite that, given the popularity of the franchise it will be surprising if the show doesn’t become successful. Especially as Hivemind will bring experiences from working on projects like the show based on The Witcher. Although we are still few months away from the release Witcher, it is set to be a massive success for a video game-based series which is impressive given poor track records of shows and movies based on games in past.
