While Hugh Jackman said that he won’t be returning to reprise his role as Wolverine in the future X-Men movies following the release of Logan, fans still wondered if the actor will change his mind. As we wait for the release of Dark Phoenix movie later next week, recently Simon Kinberg revealed that wolverine isn’t included in the upcoming movie during his interview with Rolling Stone.
As you might already know, Dark Phoenix will adapt the story of Phoenix from the comics. While X-Men: The Last Stand used the storyline, the movie was critically panned. And it seems that the studio has decided to ditch the storyline involving a love triangle featuring Jean Grey, Cyclops and Wolverine. However, given the story will take place in the same timeline of the X-Men first class, Kinberg said that the story didn’t feel right. He said, “If you know the Dark Phoenix story, you’d want to really service the love story between Logan and Jean. And I think the notion of Hugh Jackman, as great as he looks for his age, and Sophie Turner, it didn’t sit well with me. Or anyone else!”
As you can guess from Kinberg’s comments, at the moment is irrelevant whether or not we have seen the last of Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine. As Disney completed its deal to acquire Fox recently, it’s more than likely that the characters from X-Men universe will make appearance in the MCU in the coming years. However, at the moment it’s unclear who’ll play the Wolverine given Hugh Jackman made the role synonymous with him since early 2000. At the moment, Dark Phoenix is set to be the final entry in the original X-Men franchise from Fox. Dark Phoenix is set to arrive in theaters on June 7.
