Despite its moderate commercial success, Shazam remains to be one of the best superhero movies released this year. If you were worried if the movie is going to get a sequel anytime soon due to its box office numbers, you will be glad to know that the movie is set to begin filming later next year.
During a recent interview with AP, Zachary Levi talked about the movie and how working on it impacted his career. He told AP scriptwriting for the sequel has already begun and expects to start filming either in late spring or early summer next year.
This latest news shouldn’t come off as a massive surprise even though we are yet to get an official announcement regarding the sequel. However, if you have followed the news lately, you might already know that the studio is going forward with its plans to release Black Adam movie. Black Adam was set to be the main villain of the movie but the studio decided to give Black Adam a solo movie to introduce the character to audience. However, it might be a while before we get Shazam to face Black Adam as the studio recently hired Jaume Collet-Serra to direct the movie and production of that movie won’t start anytime soon.
As for the Shazam sequel, the ending of Shazam teased that we will get Mister Mind as the main villain in the upcoming movie. While we don’t know for sure how the writers will approach with the sequel, it’s safe to say the mid-credit scene opens up a lot of possibilities going forward.
At the moment, we will have to wait to find out more as there aren’t a lot of information available from DC as of now. In case the sequel starts shooting later next summer, we should learn more about the sequel it the coming months.
