Earlier last year, scientists were genuinely puzzled after they discovered a galaxy which seemingly had no dark matter at all. This discovery was surprising as dark matter is considered to be the fundamental behind birth of starts in galaxies. In a recently published article, a group of researchers has claimed that they have found the reason behind the lack of dark matter in the aforentioned galaxy.
In the paper, the group of scientists claimed that the parameters dependent on the distance of the galaxy were anomalous. As a result, the group revised the distance indicators and used five different independent methods to estimate the distance of the galaxy. The group found that the all of the retrieved data prove that the Galaxy is much closer than previously thought.
According to previous research, the galaxy was thought to be 64 million light years away from Earth. However, the recently published study reveals that the galaxy is about 42 million light years away. After the team calculated data associated with the Galaxy using their latest information, the galaxy follows the established trends of similar galaxies.
Moreover, the scientists also found that the total mass of the galaxy is around half of the previously estimated figure. These new findings imply that a significant part of the total mass of the galaxy is made of dark matter.
