While it’s been a while since the release, both OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro has now received support for ARCore.
Google introduced ARCore, a software based augmented reality platform back in 2017. Initially, Google tried to enter the augmented reality market its offerings through Project Tango. However, the platform had several hardware limitations, and never really became a success story. On the other hand, due to its software-based nature, ARCore doesn’t have any of those limitations and supported by most of the smartphones at the time. As smartphones have become more powerful over the years, most of the flagship smartphones now support ARCore since it doesn’t have any specialized hardware requirements.
As for latest addition, OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro will be joining alongside OnePlus 7 Pro 5G to support for ARCore. However, the surprising part is how long it took for the company to support the platform since several older OnePlus models already support ARCore.
In case you are interested in trying out the platform, you will need to download the official ARCore app from Play Store. As mentioned earlier, Google has been pretty active in supporting ARCore over last couple of years. Recently the company added Viewer and Augmented Faces API.
