As smartphone users have grown significantly higher over last couple of years, manufacturers have produced phones targeted towards mobile gamers. Although mobile gaming platform doesn’t come into discussion when talking about gaming related developments, mobile gaming sector remains to be one of the biggest driving forces behind app stores. According to a recent report, mobile games account for over 33 percent app installs as well as 74 percent of total in-app purchases during 2018.
The latest report comes from App Annie which revealed that mobile games account for total of 10 percent of time spent by users on smartphones. While the figure might not seem much, remember that there are other time-consuming applications such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc. Most importantly, games accounted for 33 percent of total apps download which will increase by 60 percent by the end of current year. Interestingly, these games are often free-to-play with in-app purchases. This reflects in the revenue figures as only 5 percent of revenue from games come from initial purchase.
Most importantly, figures related to the age range reveal even more interesting data. While you would think average age of mobile gamers would be significantly low, the data revealed that majority of the mobile gamers are in fact adults who are over 25 years old.
Given that mobile gaming industry is growing significantly faster in recent years, these numbers are likely to go higher by each year. As a result, expect bigger publishers to release their popular titles to smartphones in the coming years.
