We are still waiting to find out how Huawei proceeds with its smartphone development in the coming months following Google’s decision to cancel the company’s Android license few weeks earlier. While Huawei has recently filed for trademarks for its own operating system, we might have to wait before getting the release as it continues to work on its offering. Interestingly, the company has assured its customers that it will be bringing future Android updates to a number of devices.
In a recent blog post, the company noted that it will be bringing Android Q to at least 17 different models as the company is still working with Google to solve the latest issues after Huawei was included in the United States Entity list.
According to the company, these are the handsets which will receive the updates going forward:
P30 Pro
P30
Mate 20
Mate 20 Pro
PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 20 RS
P30 lite
P smart 2019
P smart+ 2019
P smart Z
Mate 20 X
Mate 20 X (5G)
P20 Pro
P20
Mate 10 Pro
PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10
Mate 10
Mate 20 Lite
The company noted that Mate 20 Pro is already part of Android Q beta and the operating system will be available for the smartphone when Google releases the operating system later this year.
While it will be interesting to see if Huawei can continue to provide updates to its consumers, the latest announcement just underlines the uncertainties the company is facing going forward. Although Huawei’s Android contract has a 90-day grace period, it’s unlikely that Android Q will be available before that. Most importantly, the announcement underlines that the company’s own operating system might not be in the later stage of development as the company has previously claimed.
