Although everyone was pretty excited after Samsung finally revealed Galaxy Fold, the smartphone faced critical display problems which forced Samsung to cancel all of the pre-orders of the device earlier last month. However, other companies are working on devices with foldable screen. and now, a recent patent has revealed Google’s plan for a foldable device with up to four screen.
The patent, discovered the LetsGoDigital, shows that the company was designing a foldable device that’d work like a book. The images included in the patent reveal that the device’s displays act like pages and you can flip through them.
This is a sharp turn away from traditional idea of foldable devices. For instance, both Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X open side by side and Samsung is reportedly working on a smartphone that opens vertically. On the other hand, Google’s design seems to be working like a book rather than a smartphone. At this point, it’s unclear what the potential use of the design would be. Despite that, the patent highlights the potentials of foldable displays to bring different features.
As this is just a patent, chances are Google aren’t even working on such device. However, Google said in the past that the company was working on foldable devices.
