Although Google introduced its Daydream virtual reality platform a while back, the company has been relatively quiet about the product. If you went to this year’s I/O developers conference, you probably remember that the company didn’t talk a lot about Daydream during the event either. Interestingly, the company has decided to shut down the Play Movies & TV app for Daydream.
In case you didn’t know, the Play Movies & TV allowed Daydream users to view their contents in a virtual living room setting in case they were wearing a compatible headset. However, Google has confirmed that the app will no longer work with the VR platform.
While Google has discontinued the app, the company has revealed that users will now be required to view their contents through YouTube VR app for Daydream. Although YouTube doesn’t really have that much paid contents on the platform, Google said that users will still be able to purchase content through the app.
In an official statement to Variety, Google revealed that the company doesn’t have plan to shut down any other app for Day Dream going forward.
This latest discontinuation comes after the company recently shut down Spotlight Stories VR studio.
