Although Facebook’s notification system was pretty neat in the early days, the social network has expanded over the years to bring several new features. As a result, the notification sections became cluttered as more people joined the network. In order to solve the problem, Facebook is currently testing options to turn off some of the notifications on the network.
Notification dots have become pretty popular over last couple of years as both Android and iOS use the indicator to let users know about their apps’ notification status. However, Facebook realized that the notification dots did more harm than good as users have become non-responsive to the dots. As a result, interactions from notifications on the social network have gone down in recent time.
In a recent statement to TechCrunch , Facebook confirmed that it is in fact working on ways to give users options to choose which notification or red dot should appear in the social network. When the feature is available, users will be able to turn red dots on and off on per-tab basis.
At the moment however, it’s unclear when the feature will come to the social network. While the option to mute notifications from certain tabs would be great, it might end up creating even more confusion if people start missing their important updates on a regular basis.
