If you own a cat, then you already know the struggles of owning one as cats love to bring in dead animals form outside on a regular basis. While there are many ways you can try to keep your house clean, an engineer from Amazon has built an AI-powered cat flap to prevent his cat from bringing dead animals inside.
In order to prevent the cat from bringing in and out dead animals, Ben Hamm from Amazon decided to implement an AI-enabled camera as well as an Arduino-powered locking system along with it.
In order to achieve his goal, Hamm trained the AI using machine learning algorithms to help the AI to identify the cat if it was coming in or going out with a dead animal. If the camera detected that the cat was coming with a dead animal, the flap would lock up for 15 minutes and Hamm would receive an alert. Funnily enough, the system also sends an automatic donation to National Audubon Society, an organization that strives to protect birds that cats love to kill.
While we won’t be seeing the cat flap out in market, it’s still a fun experience. In case you are interested, you can check out Hamm’s explanation in a video below.
