DOJ Might Initiate an Antitrust Investigation against Google

If latest reports are anything to go by, then U.S. Department of Justice might have taken steps to open a federal antitrust investigation against Google.

This isn’t the first time Google has come under scrutiny of the current government. Few years earlier, Google was part of another federal investigation on the premise that the company’s business practices were threatening competitors. At the time however, the company didn’t face any legal action.

During that investigation, the Federal Trade Commission investigated whether or not Google’s search algorithms were hurting its competitors. Additionally, the commission also investigated the company’s advertising practices.

If the reports are accurate, then this will mark another investigation against Google which has faced similar charges aboard. Over last three years, the search engine giant has faced over $9 billion fines in the European Union. During this time, the European Commission condemned Google’s practices of licensing its Android operating system to different smartphone manufacturers.

At the moment, there’s no confirmation regarding the latest investigation as the Department of Justice has declined to comment on the matter.
