Dave Bautista Has No Regrets for Defending James Gunn

After Disney fired James Gunn earlier last year, future of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was up in the air as the director’s name was synonymous with the movie at that point. However, Dave Bautista was one of the key figures behind the director’s rehire. At the time, he supported Gunn while calling out Disney for their treatment of the director. While many speculated the actor would be fired from Disney’s future projects, eventually Disney rehired Gunn and recently, Bautista talked about the relationship between him and the studio.

During a recent interview, the actor said, “James [Gunn] is my friend. I love him. He helped change my life and I know he’s a decent person. He was being attacked. And what do you do when your friends are being attacked? You defend them, or you’re not really a friend.”

While the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been delayed indefinitely, Bautista has a number of upcoming movies. Moreover, despite his small role in Avengers: Endgame, the actor remains to be extremely popular among fans. Stuber is coming out shortly and it looks set to become successful in box office. However, you should note that Gunn was one of the first directors to hire Bautista after his departure from wrestling. As a result, his comments shouldn’t really come off as a surprise.

In case you aren’t aware, earlier last year, James Gunn received criticisms after several conservative bloggers dug out some of his older tweets about different things including pedophilia, 9/11, racism and rape among many other sensitive topics the director “joked” about. While a lot of people thought his career was over, Warner Bros. was quick to offer him a chance to write Suicide Squad 2 which since then has changed the name to The Suicide Squad. While Disney hired him back few months earlier, the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t start until the production of The Suicide Squad is completed.
