Earlier this year, we learned that Arrow is coming to a close and as we prepare for the final season, writers of the show have reiterated their commitment to conclude the story while honoring some of the most beloved characters. In order to do so, Beth Schwartz has indicated that the writers are currently working on ways to bring back some of the characters from previous seasons.
During an interview with TVLine, Schwartz said, “We’ve [been] brainstorming and thinking about who we want back, because there are so many characters that we love. I think every episode is just going to be humongous. We’re going to fit it all in, and it’s definitely going to be an amazing season.”
While the idea is certainly interesting, it will be difficult to bring back a lot of characters as the final season of Arrow will contain only 10 episodes. That means the final season will have less than half of the total episodes of normal seasons. As a result, writers will need to incorporate faster storytelling in case they want to bring back characters like Malcolm Merlyn, Slade Wilson and Thea. However, it’s too early to tell anything as both DC and actors’ commitments can come in the way.
For instance, DC sometimes puts embargoes on its characters to avoid overexposure as they bring them in other properties. However, good news is that DC currently doesn’t have a lot of projects in the work that involve Arrow-verse’s characters. This means we can end up getting some of the most iconic characters back from earlier seasons.
As the filming for the show is set to begin in couple of weeks, we are more than likely to hear from showrunners until the season 8 premieres later this year.
