Although Intel had been CPU market leader for a long time, AMD changed the scope of the competition completely with its release of Ryzen processor few years back. At the time, Intel was basically forced to provide more powerful CPU to satisfy its customers. Since then, AMD has been on the rise and recently, Microsoft revealed that its upcoming Project Scarlett will use AMD’s Zen 2 processor which will increase performance of the consoles by up to 8-fold. Interestingly, rumors have suggested that AMD might be working on a third-generation Ryzen processors which will feature up to 64 cores and 128 threads.
While we will have to wait to find out the accuracy of the rumors, in a recent report, Wccftech claimed that the company will unveil the processor later this year.
Although we have previously heard about AMD’s upcoming processor, at the time rumors suggested that the third-generation chips might not come out until next year. While it’ll be extremely surprising if AMD releases the processor later this year, the core counts of the upcoming processor shouldn’t really be a massive surprise. Recently the company unveiled its Ryzen 3950X processor with 16 cores and 32 threads for PC enthusiasts.
Interestingly, Wccftech also claimed that the upcoming processor will come along with next-generation X599 HEDT which will support the 64-core processor.
As with all of the early rumors, you should take the latest one with grain of salt. Furthermore, it’s unlikely that we’ll learn anything about the upcoming processor from AMD anytime soon even if it surprises everyone by releasing the processor later this year. Despite that, if AMD indeed has a plan to reveal processor anytime soon, we should hear about it in the next couple of months.
