Despite its popularity, WhatsApp remains to be an interesting acquisition from Facebook as the social networking giant is still trying to find a way to monetize the popular messaging application. Since WhatsApp’s purchase, Facebook has introduced several new features as well as products over the last several years. However, earlier last year, the company revealed its plan to introduce ads to the application. And now, WhatsApp has confirmed that the application will start showing ads from next year.
This latest announcement came via Twitter where Matt Navarra shared an image from Facebook Marketing Summit in the Netherlands. According to the announcement, the ads will show up in WhatsApp status similarly to other “story” features found in Facebook owned apps. Given that the status isn’t really the most popular feature of the application, it’s unlikely that the users will complain about the upcoming changes.
