Over last couple of years, Social networking sites have taken extra measures to prevent spread of fake news and offensive contents using their platforms. Twitter is not an exception from this and in its latest transparency report, the company has revealed its efforts to eradicate contents pertaining to terrorism as well as child sexual exploitation from its service.
In the report, Twitter said that during the course of last year, the platform has suspended 166,513 accounts due to violation of its policies. The accounts in question were used to spread terrorism. The company also noted that over 90 percent of these accounts were flagged by Twitter’s internal tools. Additionally, the company revealed it has cancelled over 456 thousand accounts for violations related to child sexual abuses.
This latest report comes as the social networking giants like Twitter and Facebook have been under a lot of pressure in recent months due to their roles in spreading false information as well as contents related to terrorism.
