Although AMD has closed distance with Intel over last couple of years, Intel’s processors are still most popular among laptop manufacturers. If you were in the market for AMD powered laptop, you’ll be glad to know that Lenovo has recently announced three ThinkPad laptops which use AMD’s processors.
Earlier today, Lenovo announced new ThinkPad T495, T495s and X395 business laptops which will run on AMD’s second-generation Ryzen processors. If you have used ThinkPad laptops before, you won’t see any design changes as the recently announced laptops use identical chassis as the Intel powered laptops.
In case you were wondering, the AMD processors come with AMD Vega integrated GPU which will improve performance of laptops by nearly 18 percent. Furthermore, due to the core counts of the Vega GPUs, AMD hopes that the AMD laptops will be better for graphics intensive works.
However, the performance increment over Intel powered laptops will come with a price as Lenovo said that the latest laptops will require more power to run and will have around 45 minutes less battery life compared to the Intel counterparts. Moreover, the laptops won’t come with Thunderbolt 3 ports which means if you need the port, you’ll be at a disadvantage.
The ThinkPad 495 is available now while both T495s and X395 will be available for purchase later next month.
