Twitter Starts Banning Duplicate Accounts to Stop Abuse of the Platform

Over last couple of months, both Facebook and Twitter have come under heavy pressure for their roles to spread false information during the last US presidential election. As a result, both companies have started taking initiatives to avoid such occurrences in future. Now, Twitter has announced major limits on how users and apps can automate tweets in an attempt to reduce spam on the platform.

With the latest rule, developers are now banned from using any service that allows them to post identical or similar tweets from multiple accounts at the same time. Twitter revealed that it will remove the features from the company’s TweetDeck app and developers are required to follow the new rule by March 23rd.

This latest rule comes as earlier last month, the company revealed that over 50,000 accounts were responsible to spread political propaganda during election. However, you should note that the latest changes do not apply to alerts such as weather, emergency or public service announcements.
