If Chris Carter’s latest comments are anything to go by, then we might not see Gillian Anderson returning to the show following Season 11 finale as the actress wants to call it a day for the character.
This news is surprising considering few weeks earlier, series creator Chris Carter said that the show won’t continue without the actress. However, Carter seems to have changed his mind as he said, “I don’t know. I think that certainly The X-Files has more life in it, there are more stories to tell, with Gillian or without. I’m sorry to see her go, I’ve never actually considered doing this show without her, so is this the end? It’s the end of something, I don’t know if it’s the beginning of something new. But certainly we will have to all put our heads together and figure out where to go from here.”
Carter’s recent comments came during his recent interview with Digital Spy as he revealed that there are more stories to tell following season 11. While it will be disappointing to see the show losing one of the lead characters, it’s too early to predict how the season 11 will turn out.
At the moment, Carter pointed out that he hasn’t put a lot of thought on how to continue the show without the character as it is difficult to imagine the show without agent Scully. Moreover, although the show tried to continue without one of its lead characters for season 9, it didn’t go well with audience. As a result, we will have to wait and see to find out if X-Files returns without Gillian Anderson in the future following end of season 11.
