Shortly after the Sherlock’s Season 4 ending, fans learned that the popular television show won’t be returning anytime soon. Since then, details regarding the development of the popular television show have been pretty rare. However, recently actor Martin Freeman talked to DenofGeek as he revealed that he is happy with Sherlock’s current break as it relieves the pressure to live up to the fans’ expectations.
During the interview, Freeman said, “But speaking for myself, I’d quite like to take a break from that for a while. Just that sort of…clamor. Which is lovely, cause people like your show, but it can feel quite pressured actually. Know what I mean? You’ve got obviously to surprise them, but if you surprise them too much they’ll hate you for it. It’s a tricky one. It’s a hard one, because there is so much expectation on that show, more than anything I’ve ever done. I’m happy to give it a rest for a while certainly.”
While you might have expected that the actor might give some insight into the future of the show, Freeman said that he has no news to share regarding Sherlock’s future at the moment. Despite the insane popularity over the years, following end of season 4, BBC put Sherlock’s production on hold until further notice.
If you have followed news related to both Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch, then you already know that Season 5 is highly unlikely at the moment. Shortly before season 1’s premiere, Mark Gatiss revealed that another season might not be in the card as both of the lead actors are currently busy with their works in big screen.
