Last couple of months have been pretty rough for DCEU as all of the movies except Wonder Woman were heavily criticized despite becoming box office hits. Throughout this time, we have heard rumors that Ben Affleck might not return to reprise his role in his solo movie. Interestingly, a recent report by Revenge of the Fans have claimed that the actor is currently unsure if he wants to commit to the franchise.
The report iterated comments from an unidentified source who claimed that the present Batman is still Ben Affleck. The source said, “A change in cowl will not happen publicly until Ben is officially gone, and he is currently The Batman. But like we have said, it’s a negotiation thing right now. Not money, but appearances and creative. Ben isn’t wanting to vacate, but not wanting to commit fully.”
Although there’s no confirmation from the studio just yet, it won’t be surprising at all if the actor doesn’t return to reprise his role. For instance, Affleck was initially set to direct The Batman from a script from Geoff Johns. But later, he stepped down as the director with Matt Reeves joining the production. Later, Reeves scrapped the previous script with the script is still in the works.
While there is no details on the story just yet, reports in recent months claimed that we might see Jake Gyllenhaal reprising the role of The Batman in case Affleck decides to quit the movie.
At the moment, production of The Batman is set to begin in the summer of 2018. If the production goes ahead with the timeline, it’s likely that we will learn more about the movie and casting choice in the coming months.
