Volkswagen recently announced that it will be working with Aurora to create self-driving cars as the world’s largest automobile manufacturer wants to bring autonomous taxis by 2021.
Founded by former autonomous driving chiefs from Google, Tesla and Uber, Aurora is labelled as one of America’s hottest self-driving startup by Wired recently. The Silicon Valley startup has been working with Audi for a while as Audi is testing autonomous technology on its SUVs. Following lengthy tests, Audi revealed that it is satisfied with the technology Aurora is working on. As a result, the latest announcement from Volkswagen shouldn’t be a surprise given that manufacturers are planning on bringing more autonomous vehicles in the coming years.
This latest news isn’t a massive surprise given that Volkswagen has been part of massive financial and reputational damage from its dieselgate scandal over last couple of years. Nevertheless, the company has been working on transforming its focus towards bringing environment friendly cars over next couple of years.
