Since Blumhouse Productions join McFarlane last summer, the writer/director of the upcoming movie has been revealing important details of the upcoming movie. Recently Todd McFarlane has revealed that he has planned a cameo for both Stan Lee and himself in the upcoming movie. However, if we indeed get to see Stan Lee in the upcoming movie, it won’t be like the cameos we are used to seeing from Stan Lee as the Spawn reboot is set to be a suspense movie.
The news related to Stan Lee’s cameo came during Ace Comic-Con in Arizona where Todd McFarlane talked about the upcoming reboot. Talking about the Stan Lee’s cameo, McFarlane told the he wanted to see a cameo from the comic book legend we are not used to. Instead of showing a goofy-cameos, McFarlane said that he wants Lee’s character to be a dark character in the upcoming movie.
He said, “I want to do a dark anti-cameo, unfriendly Stan Lee, and he’s like, ‘Todd, I’m in!’ I’ve explained what I want to do, and he’s like, ‘Oh, cool. So, I’m not gonna be, like, the happy-go-lucky?’ I go, ‘No, you’re gonna be ugly. You’re gonna be this Schlitz-drinking, wife beater, three-day-old shave, snarly dude.’ And he’s like, ‘I love it!’ So, we’ll see if we can pull it off.”
While the news regarding McFarlane’s cameo isn’t a shocker, it will be surprising to see if Stan Lee indeed appear as an unlikable character in the upcoming reboot. At the moment however, the Spawn reboot doesn’t have an official release date but rumors suggest that the movie will come out in 2019 with production set to being later next month. Apart from that, not a lot of details of the movie is known so far but expect to hear more from cast and crew members in the coming days.
