We are hearing for a while now that Samsung has a foldable smartphone in development. While such news might be just rumors in the past, recently ZTE released a foldable smartphone which suggests that the technology might be closer than ever before. And now, a new report has claimed that Samsung has secretly showcased the company’s variant of a foldable smartphone at CES 2018.
The latest report comes from Gizmochina which claimed that Samsung showed both in-folding and out-folding devices with curvatures of 1R and 5R respectively. An individual who was present at the meeting claimed that the smartphone features a 7.3 inch display which uses OLED display.
As for release, reports suggested that the smartphone will be heading for production later this year which means that we might not get a foldable smartphone from Samsung until next year.
In case Samsung indeed goes ahead and releases such smartphone, the company is set to face competition from other major manufactures like Apple and Microsoft. Rumors for a long time have suggested that both of these companies are working on similar devices with Microsoft’s Surface Phone might be available later this year. However, we will have to wait few more months to see the accuracy of these claims.
