Despite its box office success, The Last Jedi has been incredibly divisive movie since its release. Interestingly, most of the theaters in China has decided to drop the movie despite experiencing decent opening weekend.
However, if you have followed the news related to the movie, then you won’t be surprising with the latest move at all. Although The Last Jedi experience less than expected $9.4 million back in last Friday, it dropped to $553,000 this Friday which suggests that most of the moviegoers are not interested in the movie. As a result, more than 90 percent of the theaters in the country have decided to drop the movie.
While the news is disappointing for Lucasfilm and Disney, it isn’t surprising that The Last Jedi didn’t perform better. Despite the franchise’s popularity over the years, it didn’t have massive following China and the original trilogy never made it to the big screen although they are regularly shown in television. Now, thanks to the latest drop by the theaters, other movies such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will have better performance at worldwide box office.
