Netflix has come pretty far over last couple of years and the streaming giant has made a significant step forward as the company recently completed a first look deal with Matt Reeves. Thanks to the latest deal, Netflix will have first look rights at any feature movies that Matt Reeves wants to direct or produce in the coming years.
At the moment, Matt Reeves is sign on to write The Batman for Warner Bros. Following the latest deal, the director released a statement expressing his excitement to work with Netflix as he said that Netflix is set to create a new age in Hollywood. He said, “Netflix is at the forefront of a new age in how storytellers are reaching their audience. I am incredibly excited to be working with Scott and our teams to find and create thrilling, character-centered genre stories, and to guide and nurture new filmmaking voices.”
Given Matt Reeves’ accomplishment in past, the latest deal is likely to significant benefit Netflix. Netflix also released a statement following the deal. Scott Stuber, head of movie initiative at Netflix said, “Matt is a fantastic storyteller with a unique vision and his track record speaks for itself. At Netflix we are partnering with the best filmmakers and know that Matt and his team will bring great inventive films to our global audience. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the Netflix family.”
However, Matt Reeves won’t be the first A-list director to sign a deal with the streaming service. David Ayer recently experienced success with Bright which had over 11 million views in just 3 day period. Ultimately, the success led to a sequel and Ayer is set to return for production.
