Intel Says You Might Notice PC Slowdown from Meltdown Fix

Last couple of days have been pretty significant in computer industry due to the Meltdown and Spectre bugs of processors which thought to have affected majority of the Intel processors which were manufactured over last decade. While OS vendors are currently working to fix the bugs in the coming days, in a recent blog post, intel has revealed that users might notice significant slowdown receiving complete update.

In the blog post, the chip manufacturer revealed the data after assessing computers running 6th, 7th and 8th Generation Intel core processors with Windows 10. The company noted that systems equipped with 8th generation core processors and SSDs will be least affected with 6 percent slowdown. On the other hand, 6th generation processors will see biggest slowdown with about 8 percent.

However, if you are using your computer for light tasks such as word processing, web browsing, you might not notice a significant slowdown. On the other hand. If you are using processor heavy applications, then you will notice higher performance dips. The company noted, “In certain cases, some users may see a more noticeable impact. For instance, users who use web applications that involve complex JavaScript operations may see a somewhat higher impact (up to 10 percent based on our initial measurements).”

After revealing the rate of possible slowdown, the company noted that it will provide more data related to computers’ performance in the coming days.
