If you have been using Android since the earliest days of smartphones, then you might recall that back in 2010, Imo launched to bring all of your instant messaging application to one place. While the application’s popularity has dropped since then, the app has now crossed over 500 million downloads in Play Store.
While the app was pretty popular upon its release, the app ended its support for third-party applications amid difficulties of providing supports for different instant messaging services back in 2014. Afterwards, Imo instead focused on developing its own network of texting and video calling features.
However, this move didn’t work the app’s favor as it lost popularity in different countries. Despite that, the Android app remains to be one of the most popular applications in several countries including Singapore, India, Sweden and Russia. Given that not a lot of applications reach the 500 million installs marks, this is a significant achievement nevertheless considering most of the modern smartphone users have ether forgot the app or didn’t even hear about the messaging application.
