Facebook Messenger to Become Simpler to Use this Year

Over last couple of years, Facebook has added number of new features to the Messenger. Since 2014, the application has added payments, stories, bots and games among many other unwanted features. Recently, the social networking giant has admitted that the application has become too cluttered with features. As a result, the popular messaging app is set to go through some major changes in order to make the app much easier to use.

The latest news comes via an official blog post by where the company’s vice president of messaging products has noted that the company has gone overboard with new features for the app over last couple of years. He wrote, “Over the last two years, we built a lot of capabilities to find the features that continue to set us apart. A lot of them have found their product market fit; some haven’t. While we raced to build these new features, the app became too cluttered. Expect to see us invest in massively simplifying and streamlining Messenger this year.”

However, Facebook didn’t specify which features of the messenger are considered to be clutters at the moment. For instance, the application went through so many changes that few months earlier, the social networking giant released another messaging app called “Messenger Lite” with basic messaging functionality. While the company marketed the app for those with slow internet connection, it became one of the massive hit in the western countries where users seemingly want a messaging app devoid of any additional feature.

At the moment, there’s no confirmation or news of how the company will go ahead with its plan to simplify the app. However, as the News Feed recently went through major changes, it’s likely that we will see similar changes in the coming months.
