Facebook Is Testing a New Feature in Six US Cities

Facebook’s fake news related problem is nothing new and the company has been introducing new features to remove fake news from the social network on a regular basis. In order to further continue the trend, the social network is now testing a new section in its app called “today In”.

The latest report comes via Recode which noted that the new feature combines events, announcements and local news items related to a specific city. At the moment, the feature is available to users who reside in New Orleans, Louisiana; Olympia, Washington; Billings, Montana; Binghamton, New York; Peoria, Illinois and Little Rock, Arkansas.

In order to access the new section, you will need to tap the bottom right section in the Facebook menu. The section brings contents using human curated and machine learning algorithm and is part of the social network’s Journalism Project Initiative which is targeted towards creating partnerships with local news organizations.

While the company expects to roll out the feature to other locations in the coming days, there is no confirmation when the new feature will be available to everyone. The company expects that with the new feature, users will have better chance of staying connected with news related to a city they are interested in.
