Apple Confirms All Mac and iOS Devices Are Affected by Meltdown & Spectre Bugs

After it was revealed that most of the Intel’s processors from last decade contains a design flaw that jeopardizes security of computers and mobile devices, major companies and organizations have come forward with their own statements regarding the matter. While Apple didn’t release its statement immediately, the tech giant has recently confirmed that all of its Mac and iOS systems are affected by the bugs known as Meltdown and Spectre. However, the company claimed that there are no known exploits impacting the users at this moment.

The company went on to claim that since the discovery, it has released several updates for iOS, macOS, and tvOS. The company said, “Apple has already released mitigations in iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2 to help defend against Meltdown. Apple Watch is not affected by Meltdown. In the coming days we plan to release mitigations in Safari to help defend against Spectre. We continue to develop and test further mitigations for these issues and will release them in upcoming updates of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.”

Since the reports regarding the security vulnerability first came out, several reports have claimed that the upcoming fixes will result in slow device performance. However, Apple refuted the claim by saying that the benchmarks thus far have shown “no measurable reduction” in the performance of iOS or macOS devices.
